Syngenta announces Besiege insecticide registration

“Besiege is a modern insecticide, combining two active ingredients at robust rates in a convenient pre-mix formulation,” said John Koenig, Syngenta insecticide asset lead. “This product gives growers the benefit of multiple modes of action for consistent, high-level control on both traited and conventional crops in all areas of the South, including those with emerging pyrethroid resistance.”

In a 2009 Clemson University trial conducted in Hampton, S.C., an evaluation of fall armyworm counts five days after treatment showed that Besiege offered highly effective knockdown at 92 percent control, while the competitive treatment offered 74 percent control. Besiege was still providing 95 percent control 12 days after treatment, demonstrating its long-lasting residual activity.

“Besiege is an excellent new option for growers looking to control both leps and stink bugs late in the season,” said Jeff Mink, Syngenta agronomy district manager. 

“Although other options may control one or two pests well, Besiege offers one-shot control of a wider range of key pests and protection of crop yield and quality.”
