Enlist Duo corn, cotton, soybeans … coming to a field near you


They've suffered some regulatory setbacks along the way, but researchers are continuing to push ahead with seeking full registration for new herbicide-tolerant traits featuring some new variations of older weed control chemistry.

Dow AgroSciences believes it will receive final clearance for its Enlist Duo weed control system with Colex D technology for corn and soybeans in 2015 followed by cotton containing the trait in time for the 2016 season. (Launch has been targeted for 2014 but USDA decided to require an Environmental Impact study whiched delayed final approval.)

Last year, the company established five technical centers in the Midwest and one in Memphis, Tenn., to give farmers, consultants and dealers an opportunity to see the technology in action. More than 5,000 persons attended educational events at the centers, according to Johnathan Siebert, Enlist field representative for Dow AgroSciences.

This year, Dow AgroSciences plans to have five additional technical centers spread across the Southeast, Mid-South and Texas to help farmers become better acquainted with Enlist Duo and the regulations that will guide its use.

Dow AgroSciences representatives will also conduct on-farm demonstrations of the new technology although the farmers and their locations had not been determined when Siebert was interviewed at the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn.
