The LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station will hold its annual field day on June 30 to showcase the facility’s work.

The event will cover a wide range of topics related to rice, said station director Steve Linscombe. “Because we believe a very interesting and informative program has been planned for this occasion, we feel that all people interested in the rice industry should attend.” 

The activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. with field tours of research projects, with the last tour truck leaving no later than 9:15 a.m. Stops will include presentations on disease and insect control, fertilization, new varieties and agronomy.

Researchers also will put their work on display and will be available for discussions in a poster session under the equipment shed from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The program will move indoors following the poster session, Linscombe said. “Much of the program will focus on the economics of rice production and the upcoming farm bill.”

Speakers will include Jerry Holden of Ducks Unlimited, Clarence Berken of the Louisiana Rice Research Board, Kyle McCann of the Louisiana Farm Bureau talking about the farm bill, LSU AgCenter chancellor Bill Richardson, interim LSU AgCenter vice chancellor for research John Russin, and LSU AgCenter vice chancellor for Extension Paul Coreil.

A lunch will be served following the program.
