Jesse L. Purvis has been named chief executive officer of Land Bank South, the farmer-owned lending cooperative that was formerly known as the Federal Land Bank of South Mississippi.

Purvis, who had been acting CEO since last summer, is a 30-year veteran with the Farm Credit System, having joined the Federal Land Bank of Tupelo, Miss., in 1975. He joined the Federal Land Bank of South Mississippi in 1994 as an appraiser.

He was then named vice president and branch manager of the association's Jackson, Miss., office and later was promoted to chief financial officer and then chief operations officer.

“We have a tenured staff that is dedicated to meeting the financial needs of our customers,” said Purvis. “Land Bank South has a long and proud history of financing farmers, country homeowners, agribusiness firms and other rural landowners in south Mississippi. It's our goal to be the lender of choice for these folks.”

Land Bank South is a rural mortgage-lending cooperative with assets of $438.7 million. Headquartered in Jackson, the association has offices in Brookhaven, Greenville, Greenwood, Hattiesburg, Newton and Poplarville, Miss.
