Delta Counties Recognized For Delta Council Support DELTA COUNCIL Membership Chairman Bill Gresham of Indianola has announced that at least 10 counties in the Delta Council region have surpassed all previous totals in membership subscriptions to the regional development organization.

The counties that achieved this plateau were Bolivar, Coahoma, Issaquena, Leflore, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tate and Yazoo.

"I would like to thank the citizens and businesses in these counties, and all counties in Northwest Mississippi, for their generous support of Delta Council," said Gresham, an Indianola businessman. "In spite of the crippled agricultural economy, Delta Council feels that real progress is being made to improve the quality of life for all people in the Delta."

Delta Council President Kenneth Hood of Gunnison credits the work of the membership chairmen in these counties who provide the local coordination and solicitation of Delta Council membership dues.

"Whether you are talking about infrastructure development, industrial development, agricultural policy, flood protection or natural resource initiatives, Delta Council was working hard to make positive things happen for our region," said Hood. "With the support of people throughout the Delta region, we can continue to confront the task at hand with confidence that the local people will have input."

Hood and Gresham also noted that several other counties in the Delta Council region are also nearing record levels of support to the organization with approximately one month to go in the 2000 campaign.
