• As has come to be expected each year, the Southern Peanut Growers Conference offers an agenda tailored for peanut producers, with opportunities for learning more about legislative issues, peanut research and promotions.
The 13th Annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference is scheduled for July 21-23, at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Fla., with a theme this year of “Windows of Opportunity.”
As has come to be expected each year, this conference offers an agenda tailored for peanut producers, with opportunities for learning more about legislative issues, peanut research and promotions.
Registration for the meeting will begin on Thursday, July 21, at 1 p.m., lasting until 6:30 p.m. at the Edgewater Beach Resort Conference Center.
The hospitality room and refreshments will be compliments of Southern Peanut Growers with grilled PB&J’s compliments of the National Peanut Buying Points Association. At 6:30 p.m., room registration will move to the Edgewater Beach Resort Information Center.
A welcoming reception hosted by Bayer CropScience will be held beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a Welcoming Dinner from 7:30 until 10 p.m. The theme will be “A Night at the Casino — A Window of Opportunity for Tornado Relief Efforts.”
On Friday, July 22, beginning at 7 a.m.,Valent and Ag Leader Technology will host a prayer breakfast. This will be followed by the Valor Award presentation.
The general sessions, beginning at 8:15 a.m. on Monday will be as follows:
General Session I — The Marketplace: The Truth about the 2010 Crop, Jim Leek, JLA; Dealing with the 2010 Crop, Jim Fenn, Olam Peanut Products; World Hunger, Mark Moore, MANA Corporation; and The Future of Ag Trade, Daniel Whitney, USDA Foreign Ag Service.
General Session II, beginning at 9:45 a.m., will be themed, Production Agriculture & the Land Grant System, with the following panel of speakers, William Batchelor, Auburn University; Scott Angle, University of Georgia; Joseph Joyce, University of Florida; and George Hopper, Mississippi State University.
General Session II also will feature an “Ask the Experts” panel of speakers, including the following: Weed Management, Jay Ferrell, University of Florida and Eric Prostko, University of Georgia; Disease Management, Nick Dufault, University of Florida and Tim Brenneman, University of Georgia; Insect Management, Jay Chapin, Clemson University and David Adams, University of Georgia; Agronomics, Mike Howell, Mississippi State University and Kris Balkcom, Auburn University; and Soil Fertility/Cropping Systems, Glen Harris, University of Georgia and Scott Tubbs, University of Georgia.
A lunch buffet will be sponsored by BASF and will feature, “Celebrating Agriculture — Michelle Payn-Knoper, Cause Matters Corporation.
