Agricultural producers, farm managers and other crop production professionals will have an opportunity to learn about the latest in row crop research during the LSU AgCenter's Northeast Research Station Field Day scheduled for June 14.

Donnie Miller, resident coordinator at the station located just north of St. Joseph, La., said activities for the annual field day include field tours of research plots – although the final program has not been set because most researchers are still evaluating this year's plots.

“The rains in early May set us back a bit, and things are just now getting enough heat units to show you what you really have,” Miller said.

He said the researchers will be covering the topics of agronomic and pest management research in cotton, soybean, corn and rice. The general topics will include:

-- Cotton and soybean agronomic research.

-- Twin-row corn production and corn hybrid evaluations.

-- Corn and rice weed control.

-- Weed control programs in transgenic cotton and soybeans.

-- New seed treatments for control of thrips.

-- Chemical efficacy on plant bugs.

-- Evaluation of transgenic Bt cotton strains.

-- Interactions with plant parasitic nematodes.
