To help ease the budget pressures on the 2008 farm bill, Congress decreed that 37 programs would face sunset provisions after 2012. Two of those programs, SURE and the Wetlands Reserve Program, account for $6 billion of the $9 billion needed to continue those. So, along with the other budget issues Congress faces, members will have to find another $6 billion to $9 billion if they want to extend them, says the Louisiana Farm Bureau’s Kyle McCann. He spoke at the LSU Rice Research Station’s field day.
