The Budget Control Act of 2011, part of the compromise worked out by President Obama and Congress to avoid a default on the government’s debt, Aug. 2, is creating a new sense of urgency among commodity organizations. The Act sets up a select committee of 12 members of Congress to develop a plan for reducing government spending by $1.2 trillion by Dec. 31.
