Planning for the 2008 growing season will be the focus of the Delta Crop Summit on Nov. 13 at the Mississippi State University Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, Miss.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the Charles W. Camps Jr. Entrepreneurial Center. The program will begin at 8 a.m. There is no cost to attend and lunch is provided.

“The Delta Crop Summit is designed to offer the most up-to-date crop production information to producers, consultants, agricultural distributors and other individuals directly involved in crop production,” said Dan Poston, MSU Extension Northwest district soybean specialist and one of the event’s organizers.

“The meeting is scheduled in the fall of the year so production decisions can be made before the spring,” Poston said. “We will run four sessions concurrently so attendees can choose the topic of most interest to them.”

The summit will cover soybeans, wheat, rice, cotton and corn production. Featured topics include raised beds for soybean production, herbicide tolerance in rice cultivars, critical issues in cotton production for 2008, soybean rust and how to submit disease samples for testing.

Guest speakers include David Lanclos, Louisiana State University soybean specialist; Jeremy Ross, University of Arkansas soybean specialist; and Bob Scott, University of Arkansas Extension weed specialist.

MSU researchers from Stoneville, Starkville and Raymond are on the agenda as well. Exhibits at the summit will include weed, disease and insect identification.
