Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District essay scholarship contest for 12th-grade students

The Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District (YMD) works to improve water resources in the Delta. As part of this effort, YMD recognizes that water education is a key to a prosperous future for all citizens.

To encourage and reward students who pursue knowledge on water resources, YMD has established a scholarship program for 12th grade students in the 17 Mississippi Delta counties it serves.

The winning entrant will receive a $2,000 scholarship to the college or university of his or her choice. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for second place and a $500 scholarship for third place.

The essay should be 500 to 700 words on “The Importance of Water in the Mississippi Delta.”

Entries must be postmarked by March 22, 2006.

Students who have questions can contact their high school counselors, or Anna Sullivan at anna@ymd.org or Mary Leigh Bishop at maryleigh@ymd.org, or call YMD at (662) 686-7712.
