EVEN THOUGH dairy numbers in Mississippi have dropped precipitously over the past quarter-century, long-time dairyman Bill McGee continues to raise quality Holstein cows for a north Mississippi dairy operation.
ABOUT 400 ANIMALS are on the McGee farm at any one time, from baby calves to two-year-old heifers.
MOST HAY for the McGee operation, about 1,000 bales annually, is produced on-farm. All are plastic-wrapped in order to prevent weathering and preserve nutritional quality.
The McGees use a Claas round baler, which has an attachment that covers bales in plastic wrap.
