The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has begun taking landowner tree seedling applications, Commissioner Bob Odom said. Applications can be obtained at the department's Website, www.ldaf.state.la.us, from any district forestry office or by calling the department's state headquarters at 225-925-4515.

“This is a seedling sale aimed at small to large landowners and should not be confused with our urban seedling sales where we sell small packets of six to 20 seedlings,” Odom said. “In this sale we will be selling hardwood trees in minimum lots of 50 as well as in lots of 100 seedlings, 500 seedlings and 1,000 seedlings or more. Pine seedlings are sold in minimum lots of 500 and more.

“We will have six different pine tree species and 35 hardwood species available for sale. Prices range from $25 for 50 hardwood seedlings to $300 per thousand, depending on hardwood species, and from $26 for 500 pine seedlings to $52 per thousand for pine seedlings, depending on species,” Odom said.

More specific quantity and price information can be found on the purchase application available on the Website. Seedlings will be available from mid-November through December. Arrangements can be made for seedling pickup at individual nurseries or at district offices.

In addition to the application on the Website, also at the site are the inventories of seedlings available from district nurseries in DeRidder, Oberlin, Columbia and Monroe.
