Zion Gin Co., Brownsville, Tenn., was presented the Most Outstanding Gin Safety Program Award for the second consecutive year by the Southern Cotton Ginners Assn.
“Their program is just top-notch in every respect,” said Larry Davis, director of the association's safety programs. “Everybody in the company makes it a point to put safety first and to emphasize it in every aspect of their operations.”
Accepting the award at the organization's annual meeting held in conjunction with the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show at Memphis were Wayne Tritt, president, and Norma Austin, office manager and safety director.
Receiving the association's Most Improved Gin Safety Program Award was the Union Gin Co., also of Brownsville, Tenn. Accepting the award were David Jenkins, manager, and Donna Jenkins, secretary.
State winners of Best Safety Program Awards were: Arkansas — TASCO, Inc., Joiner; Louisiana — Caddo Farmers Gin at Belcher; Mississippi — Holly Bluff Gin Co., Holly Bluff; and Missouri — B&B Cotton Co. at Campbell.
State winners of the Most Improved Safety Program Awards were: Arkansas — Lowrance Gin Co., Driver; Louisiana — Corey Gin Co., Columbia; Mississippi — Lake Bolivar Gin Co., Scott; and Missouri — 4-Way in Co., Senath.
Excellence in Safety Awards were presented to McClendon, Mann & Felton Gin Co., Marianna, Ark.; Honey Island Gin Co., Cruger, Miss.; Columbus Gin Assn., Shaw, Miss.; Mattson Gin Co., Mattson, Miss.; A.C. Riley Cotton Co., New Madrid, Mo.; and Longtown Gin Co., Mason, Tenn.
