EPA has approved a new federal label for the application of a Regiment-Command tank-mix on problem broadleaf weeds in rice, including smartweed, hemp sesbania, eclipta, flatsedge, and ducksalad.

Rice growers will also be able to make an early postemergence application of Regiment herbicide plus Command to control emerged broadleaf weeds and grasses. The tank-mix also provides residual grass control until flood, according to Valent U.S.A. Corp., the registrant for Regiment.

Valent product development manager Greg Rich said the tank-mix is an effective program approach to weed control. Growers can use a reduced rate of Regiment and Command early and follow that with a second Regiment application pre- or post-flood. The second application can be tank-mixed with other registered herbicides, if necessary, to target specific weeds.

“We have seen good results with this tank-mix combo on broadleaf and aquatic weeds, as well as barnyardgrass,” Rich said.

The new tank-mix joins a growing line of quality products and registrations from Valent U.S.A. Corporation. Other Valent solutions for Southern growers include Bolero herbicide, Cobra herbicide, Orthene insecticide, Select herbicide, Resource herbicide and Valor herbicide.
