The USA Rice Federation board of directors has elected James W. (Jamie) Warshaw to be its next chairman. Warshaw, whose two-year term begins Aug. 1, follows California rice producer Al Montna, in that position.

“Jamie is a decisive and knowledgeable leader with a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities that face the industry and I have no doubt that he will do a fine job as chairman” said Montna.

In 1982, Warshaw joined the Powell Group, a conglomeration of several companies, including Agrilectric Power Partners; Agrilectric Research Co.; Hardy Rice Drier; Powell Farm Partners and Excalibur Land Company.

At Agrilectric Power, Inc., he worked in the area of rice hull fuel power plant sales for the California rice industry and was actively involved in the implementation, development and management of Agrilectric’s by-products programs for five years, from 1983 to 1988.

Warshaw began working for Farmers Rice Milling Company, Inc., in 1988, with primary responsibilities for plant operations, capital projects and long-range capital planning. He was named chief executive officer of the company in 1996.

Warshaw plays an active role within the rice industry and is a member of the board of directors for the USA Rice Council, the USA Rice Millers’ Association and the USA Rice Federation. He served as board chairman for the USA Rice Millers’ Association for 1996-97 and is an active member of several committees within USA Rice.
