THE MISSISSIPPI Entomological Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary by highlighting the state's role in the nationwide effort to eradicate the boll weevil. Scheduled for Nov. 4 at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., the organization's 2003 fall meeting will feature a number of speakers addressing the boll weevil eradication effort, and even a musical call to order.

Issues to be covered include weevil history, weevil control through insecticides, host plant resistance, and future directions of the program, all with an emphasis on Mississippi, Mississippi's role in the program, and the success of the program in the state.

Invited research posters on weevil eradication will be on display throughout the meeting as well.

In addition, the Mississippi Entomological Association will celebrate its golden jubilee with a walk through MEA history. Noted association members will discuss key developments in MEA history over the past 50 years.
