A second registrant, Makhteshim Agan of North America, Inc., has announced its intent to work with the EPA to continue supporting the registration of diazinon for its currently approved agricultural uses.
In 2002, EPA released an Interim Re-registration Eligibility Decision for diazinon, which extends the registration of diazinon for agricultural uses indefinitely, with some proposed label changes. The IRED does not include indoor or outdoor residential uses.
“We’re working with EPA on these label changes and remain committed to maintaining the registration of diazinon for agricultural uses for the foreseeable future,” said Hugh Brooks, product manager. MANA has been manufacturing diazinon technical material for more than 25 years and is now the sole manufacturer and registrant of the product in the United States.
Diazinon insecticide is a widely used crop protection tool that is registered for use against soil-borne and foliar insect pests on a wide variety of tree, vine, row and field crops.
MANA is the North American subsidiary of Makhteshim Agan Industries Ltd., of Israel, the world’s leading manufacturer of generic crop protection products.
