The Mississippi Delta rice industry will celebrate National Rice Month with its 17th annual Delta Rice Luncheon Sept. 21 at Cleveland, Miss.

The event, hosted by Delta Rice Promotions, Inc., attracts more than 1,000 people from Mississippi and surrounding states. It will feature more than 300 rice dishes prepared by Delta rice-growing families and area restaurants.

It will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus of Delta State University.

“The food is superb,” says Ben Spinks, Bolivar County Extension director, “and as with all Delta events, it will be accompanied with down-home visits with friends and family.”

There will also be exhibits and a show by the Bolivar County 4-H fashion modeling squad.

“We invite everyone to come and join in this celebration of this key Delta agricultural industry,” Spinks says.

Delta Rice Promotions represents farmers, agribusinesses, farm organizations, and government agencies.

Tickets are available at county Extension and Farm Bureau offices throughout the Mississippi Delta. They may also be purchased by phone (662) 843-8371 or at the door.
