HUNT SHIPMAN, chief of staff for the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee, will share his outlook on agricultural policy with economists and industry leaders June 27 at Mississippi State University.
Shipman will be the featured speaker at the Mississippi Agricultural Economics Association's annual meeting, which will begin at 9 a.m. in the Bost Auditorium on the Starkville, Miss., campus.
The theme of this year's meeting is “The Changing Face of Agricultural and Rural Policy.”
Also on the agenda is Marc Curtis of the National Association of Conservation Districts, who will speak on the changing role of environmental policy in agriculture and specifically the conservation component of the 2002 farm bill.
Alan Barefield of the Southern Rural Development Center will speak on the rural component of the farm bill and how rural policy will likely interface with farm policy in the future.
In addition, Keith Coble with the MSU Department of Agricultural Economics will talk about the relationship between hedging and counter-cyclical payments.
