Louisiana: Jindal requests aid for state crippled by storms

In a letter Saturday to House and Senate leadership, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called on lawmakers to act swiftly to aid hundreds of thousands Louisiana residents impacted by Hurricane Gustav early this month.
Calling the storm “crippling to all segments of agriculture throughout the state,” Jindal said many Louisiana producers sustained uninsured losses and will not be eligible for Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments as currently structured.
Jindal called on congressional leaders to provide funds to help the state recover from Hurricane Gustav even as the state assesses damages caused by Hurricane Ike over the weekend.
