Cotton short course Dec. 1-2 at MSU

Once this year’s crop is out of the fields, cotton producers can turn their attention to 2009 with a two-day short course in December.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service is offering a cotton short course Dec. 1-2 on its Starkville, Miss., campus in the Bost Extension Building. The annual short course will provide information about cotton production with the goal of making growers more productive and profitable.
Topics to be covered include the current farm bill; cotton fertility; marketing; weed control and resistance; and cotton diseases, nematode and insect management. Mini workshops will be offered on identifying damage from unknown herbicides and insect identification.
Speakers for the sessions include David Waide, president of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and Terry Kirkpatrick, a cotton researcher with the University of Arkansas. Producers, agriculture industry representatives, crop consultants and Extension Service personnel are invited to attend.
Registration is $80 by Nov. 26 and $100 at the door.
The short course runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday.
Continental breakfasts, lunches and snacks are included in the registration price.
Certified Crop Advisor credits will be available.
