Oct. 1: Meat, poultry workshop

Meat and poultry processors and producers can learn more about emerging issues in their industries at an upcoming workshop in Brandon, Miss.
Mississippi State University’s Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion is sponsoring the Oct. 1 workshop at the Rankin County Extension Office. A $35 fee will cover course materials, breaks and lunch.
The registration deadline is Sept. 26.
The agenda will cover topics such as country-of-origin labeling, biosecurity, public health, sanitation, food security, humane slaughter, food-borne pathogens, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point concerns and interstate shipping issues.
Byron Williams, assistant extension/research professor of muscle foods at MSU, is leading the workshop and has state and federal regulatory representatives on the program also.
“We designed this workshop to be informative on several emerging issues in the meat and poultry industries,” Williams said. “This also should be an excellent networking opportunity for people in the muscle foods business.”
