LSU AgCenter rice updated field pictures and blog

The 2008 LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station’s Rice Cam will show a number of images of a seed production field planted in the Catahoula variety. The Rice Cam photos can be accessed at: http://www.lsuagcenter.com/ricecam.
The featured 21.25-acre field was seeded with 42 pounds per acre of headrow seed on March 25. The field will also be featured in the Rice Web log (blog) that can be accessed at: http://lsuagcenterrice.blogspot.com.
The rice blog will also feature a commercial field in Jefferson Davis Parish.
According to the site, the purpose of the blog is twofold. “First, it is intended to help inform rice producers in Louisiana of agricultural practices being used at the LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station. The blog will concentrate on a 21.25-acre seed production field at the station and a 39-acre commercial field near Lake Arthur, showing the different phases of the growing and harvest season.
“Secondly, the blog will be an information source for the general public to explain the complicated process of growing rice. Teachers may also find the blog useful as a tool to help students learn about agriculture.”
