LSU AgCenter Forestry Forum set for March 13

Roll with the Changes is the theme of the 24th annual Ark-La-Tex Forestry Forum to be held March 13, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Airport Financial Plaza in Shreveport, La.
The event will better equip the forestry community to plan for the future, said Ricky Kilpatrick, area forestry agent for the LSU AgCenter.
“The forestry picture continues to move in the direction of a movie more than a photograph — not static but constantly changing,” Kilpatrick said. “Owner changes lead to new opportunities for forest land. It is important for landowners and land managers to keep up with them and continually adjust their management strategies.”
The event is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Louisiana Forestry Association, Northwest Louisiana Extension Forestry Advisory Committee and the Ark-La-Tex Ag Council.
Rep. Henry Burns, Haughton, La., will be on the program, and the morning moderator will be Bill Altimus, Bossier Parish Police Jury administrator. Larry Raymond, director of parks for the Caddo Parish Commission, will serve as afternoon moderator.
Scheduled topics include: your first family forestry meeting; tax planning for forest landowners; carbon credit opportunities; Louisiana forestry update; visions for Louisiana forestry; and economic outlook for Southern forests.
The program will include Mike Strain, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry, along with representatives from the LSU AgCenter, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and the University of Georgia and a tax accountant.
The Ark-La-Tex Forestry Forum qualifies for six CLE credit hours for the Louisiana Logging Council.
