Arkansas granted crisis exemption for Cruiser

On March 19, the Arkansas State Plant Board announced that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had granted a crisis exemption for Cruiser as farmers battle grape colaspis. A statement from the Plant Board reads:
“The (EPA) has granted a crisis exemption under the provisions of Section 18 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, as amended, to the Arkansas State Plant Board for the use of Cruiser 5FS on drill-seeded rice for control of grape colaspis. Applicators must be in possession of the Cruiser5FS Exemption Labeling at the time of application. All applicable directions, restrictions, and precautions on the EPA product label for Cruiser 5FS and this notice must be followed.
“The product must be applied to rice seed at a certified seed treatment facility and is intended for drill-seeded rice only. Do not use this product for water-seeded rice.
“Sufficient seed may be treated to plant a maximum of 300,000 acres of rice.
“A report for each application made under the Crisis Exemption must be filed with the Plant Board within 10 days. The following format is suggested for use by the applicator so the information required by the EPA will be provided: this information is not to be reported on pink form number 1007.
“Report of Cruiser 5FS application to rice:
• Applicator’s name
• Applicator’s address
• Farmer’s name
• Farmer’s address
• Acres treated
• Pounds of active ingredient applied per acre
• Location of field
• Time and date of application
“Reports may be mailed to: Arkansas State Plant Board, P.O. Box 1069, Little Rock, AR 72202-1069, or faxed to (501)312-7053.
“Any adverse effects resulting from the use of Cruiser 5FS under this emergency exemption must be immediately reported to the Arkansas State Plant Board.
“Expiration of this exemption is pending EPA notification.
