U.S. crop harvests slowly catching up

According to USDA’s latest crop progress report, 40 percent of the U.S. cotton crop is now harvested, compared to 47 percent a year ago and a 5-year average of 45 percent. In the Mid-South, harvest is lagging behind last year’s pace in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri, while Louisiana, at 93 percent complete, is ahead of last year’s pace and the 5-year average.
As of Oct. 26, 39 percent of the U.S. corn crop had been harvested, compared to 70 percent at the same time last year and a 5-year average of 66 percent.
Seventy-six percent of the U.S. soybean crop had been harvested, compared to 81 percent this time last year and a 5-year average of 83 percent.
Ninety-five percent of the U.S. rice crop had been harvested by Oct. 26, compared to 90 percent last year and a 5-year average of 96 percent.
Forty-nine percent of the U.S. grain sorghum crop had been harvested by Oct. 26, compared to 46 percent last year and a 5-year average of 65 percent.
