USA Rice promotes rice on school lunch menus

USA Rice Federation will host an exhibit at the School Nutrition Association’s annual conference July 16-18 in Chicago. The exhibit will introduce the new USA Rice Web site, www.MenuRice.com, and announce the first “Healthy Rice Bowls Contest” to celebrate National Rice Month.
The contest for school foodservice personnel will drive traffic to the Web site and encourage school lunch decision makers to add rice bowls to school menus for a chance to win Aroma rice cookers. The winners also have a chance to be featured on the Web site.
The K-12 section of MenuRice.com, which attracts more than 10,000 visits a month, is one of the most frequently-used areas.
The USA Rice domestic promotion staff will distribute recipes and fact sheets that include information about ordering rice through the commodity program, using whole-grain brown rice, and rice nutrition and preparation information. USA Rice will conduct a survey to gain insight into current rice usage and nutrition trends in the school foodservice market.
