Delta FARM names new watershed specialist

Dan Prevost has been named watershed specialist for Delta FARM to further develop and implement comprehensive watershed restoration projects in the Delta, the Stoneville, Miss.-based conservation organization announced.
Delta FARM, a farmer-led agricultural conservation group, has provided economically sound conservation advice and information to landowners and farm operators in the region since 1998. The organization serves as the conduit between regulatory agencies and agricultural interests to address non-point source water quality issues in Delta area streams and lakes.
With the support of landowners, farm operators, and the conservation community, Delta FARM began developing restoration plans for watersheds throughout the region.
Prevost, a native of Raymond, Miss., attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in forestry. His research and field experience has been diverse, preparing him for the multi-disciplinary field of comprehensive watershed planning.
“Dan will certainly be an asset to the organization, but most importantly, he will be an asset to the region,” said Nolen Canon, Tunica County farmer and Delta FARM chairman. “He will be given the opportunity to coordinate watershed level water quality improvement projects throughout the region --- the type projects that will have long-term, profound impacts on the quality of our region’s water resources without unfavorable economic impacts.”
Prevost’s primary duties will be with Delta FARM. He will also assist the Delta Wildlife staff. As a Mississippi registered forester, he will serve as wildlife forester for Delta Wildlife to develop the forestry components of all wildlife habitat management plans written by Delta Wildlife.
