Gins honored for safety

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Five Mid-South cotton gins have been recognized for achieving perfect 100 percent ratings on their safety programs during 2004.
Receiving Most Outstanding Award plaques at the annual meeting of the Southern Cotton Ginners Association at Memphis were B&B Cotton Company, Campbell, Mo.; Columbus Gin Association, Shaw, Miss.; Longtown Gin, Mason, Tenn.; Tanner & Company, Frogmore, La.; and Zion Gin, Brownsville, Tenn.
These operations have made a commitment to put safety first, said Larry Davis, SCGA safety director. The programs theyve put in place emphasize safety on a day-in, day-out basis, and make accident prevention a key goal for every person at the gin.
SCGA provides a broad range training aids and safety materials to help gins maintain an emphasis on eliminating accidents and injuries.

Most outstanding safety program state winners Dumas Cotton Gin, Dumas, Ark.; McNutt Gin, Boyce, La.; Avon Gin, Avon, Miss.; White Oak Gin, White Oak, Mo.; and ARP Cotton Company, Ripley, Tenn.
Most improved safety program state winners Epstein Gin, Lake Village, Ark.; Valley Gin, Shreveport, La.; Hi-Grade Gin, Winona, Miss.; and Farmers Union Gin, Senath, Mo.
Gins receiving excellence awards for safety program ratings of 94 percent or higher were:
