THE LSU AGCENTER and the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association are sponsoring two workshops for pesticide applicators interested in becoming certified in mosquito control.

The first one will be Feb. 25-27 at the Holiday Inn South in Baton Rouge. The second will be April 2-4 at the Holiday Inn in Bossier City, La.

“The first two days of the workshops will be classroom style at the hotel,” said LSU AgCenter pesticide safety specialist Mary Grodner. “Then the third day will be at another location and will involve a hands-on session during the morning and the administration of the certification examination by the Louisiana Department of agriculture and Forestry during the afternoon.”

The hands-on session in Baton Rouge will be at the LSU AgCenter's Livestock Barn on the LSU campus. In Bossier City, it will be at the Red River Research Station on Highway 71 south.

In addition to the certification exam, there will be a session for advanced applicators who already are certified during the afternoon of the second day both in Baton Rouge and in Bossier City.

A registration fee of $20 will be charged if the applicator is not a member of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association (LMCA) and $10 if the applicator is an LMCA member.

The mosquito control training manuals are available from the LMCA in care of St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Control, 2800-A Terrace Ave., Slidell, La. 70458. Phone 985-649-7325.
