An Iowa State University Extension climatologist says 2010 bears some similarities to 1983, when much of the Midwest had to deal with a harsh La Niña effect that included drought, high temperatures and reduced corn and soybean yields.
Elwynn Taylor, well-known for his weather forecasts and analysis of climatological data for Iowa farmers, talked about the prospects for another La Niña during a presentation at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa.
The seminar was sponsored by the National Pork Producers Council.
