MAIC's Crop College registration online

THE MISSISSIPPI Agricultural Industry Council, in cooperation with the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, will again offer the state's agricultural industry the opportunity to take part in educational sessions designed to meet the requirements of the Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) program and the Consultant License and Applicator Certification requirements.
The annual event, previously referred to as CCA training, is now Crop College and will take place Feb. 15-17 at the Bost Extension Center on the campus of Mississippi State University. This is a one-stop event for earning needed credits.
“The Mississippi Crop College provides Certified Crop Advisers, Extension agronomy agents and other crop professionals the latest science-based information in crop production and protection to translate into field results in the following weeks and months,” says Larry Oldham, soils and nutrient management specialist with the MSU Extension Service and a coordinator of the event.
“More than 20 faculty members from academia and industry provide instruction in crop management, nutrient management, pest management and soil and water management as that information pertains to all of the state's major row crops.”
Participants who are CCAs can obtain their required annual Continuing Education Units during the college and interact with other agronomy professionals from the region. Credits also are available for renewing Mississippi crop consultant licenses.
Speakers in the soil and nutrient management area include Bob Thompson of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce; Leo Espinoza of the University of Arkansas; David Dunn of the University of Missouri; and Cliff Snyder of the Potash and Phosphate Institute.
The Feb. 15 session will be a one-day soybean short course; on Feb. 16 the focus is soil fertility and rice; and the Feb. 17 session will cover cotton and corn.
