LSU offers three lumber workshops

THREE SEPARATE lumber-related workshops will be offered on May 6-8 at the LSU AgCenter's Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, La. Each workshop targets a different audience in the lumber industry,” said LSU AgCenter forest products specialist Todd Shupe.
The three workshops focus on solar drying of wood, advanced hardwood lumber drying, and sawing, edging and trimming of hardwood, according to Shupe, an associate professor in the LSU AgCenter's School of Renewable Natural Resources.
The first workshop the evening of May 6 is titled “Solar Drying Wood for Hobbyists.” It is targeted toward hobbyists, craftsmen and small secondary manufacturers.
The second workshop, titled “Advanced Hardwood Lumber Drying,” is scheduled for May 7. The day-long workshop will provide information on current technology and advanced training to hardwood kiln operators, said Shupe.
The third workshop, “Sawing, Edging and Trimming of Hardwood Lumber,” is scheduled for May 8. The day-long workshop will provide traditional and current technology to hardwood sawmill operators.
The speaker for all three workshops is Gene Wengert, who has been active in the forest products industry for more than 40 years and is well-known for his ability to translate the complex into easily understood, practical operating procedures.
