LOUISIANA FOREST landowners will learn how proper management can help them turn a profit during a workshop scheduled for Sept. 25.

The workshop titled “Forest Landownership: Making It Work For You” is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Marion Baptist Church in Marion, La.

LSU AgCenter forestry agent Steve Hotard said the workshop will provide forest landowners with information on how they can profit from their timber crops.

“We will have information on personal ownership issues such as wills, titles and contracts, as well as information on the different types of assistance available to landowners,” Hotard said. “We also will have a local landowner speak from a forest landowner's perspective and another speaker who will talk about making money from growing trees.”

There is no cost to attend the workshop, but advance registration is requested, because a headcount is needed for lunch, Hotard said.

Forestry is important to Louisiana's economy. The LSU AgCenter's Louisiana Summary of Agriculture and Natural Resources for 2003 shows that the state's forestry and wood products industries contributed more than $3.7 billion to Louisiana's economy last year.
