The Louisiana Rice Council and Louisiana Rice Growers Association will look at the next farm bill and domestic rice promotion activities when they hold their joint annual membership meeting in Crowley, La., Jan. 26.
The meeting, which will begin at 5 p.m., will feature a speech by Jim Wiesemeyer, vice president for policy and trade issues for Informa Economics Inc.’s Washington office. Wiesemeyer, also Washington consultant to Pro Farmer newsletter, has reported on major farm bills and trade policy in Washington since 1978.

The program will include a report on domestic promotion activities funded by the Louisiana Rice Promotion Board investment. “USA Rice Federation domestic promotion programs are being run strategically and aggressively in order to increase awareness and consumption of rice and to increase industry profitability,” said Anne Banville, vice president of domestic promotion for USA Rice.
USA Rice President and CEO Stuart Proctor will also present the annual USA Rice financial report and provide an update on additional USA Rice activities.
