A new generation of seed tender trailers is available from The KBH Corporation, a Clarksdale, Miss., farm equipment manufacturer. The new Model ST250 Seed Tender is unique in the market because it is designed to reach a 36-foot planter, according to Walter Jones, project manager.
“The new KBH seed tender trailer can reach these wide planters because of the additional height and slope of the tube,” said Jones. “This model elevates the seed to 14.5 feet, giving the tube the slope and distance to reach the outside hoppers.”
The new seed tender is entirely hydraulic. Instead of using belts, a hydraulic pump mounted on a Honda 5.5-hp engine powers a direct-mounted hydraulic motor on the auger. The self-contained hydraulic system also enables KBH to fold its taller auger hydraulically.
With two hoppers, the trailer can carry two varieties of seed at one time, and its 35-degree hopper slope makes it ideal to handle rice, wheat, soybeans, corn or cotton. For easy access, the ST250 utilizes a roll tarp, which minimizes trips up the ladder.
“The new seed tender also is designed with features to protect seed from damage,” adds Jones. “Its poly cup auger prevents seed from riding the edge, where most damage occurs.”
The Model ST250 comes field ready and weighs 4,240 pounds empty.
It is the first in a line of seed trailers KBH plans to develop in the future, according to Tim Tenhet of KBH.
