The annual meeting of the Delta Council is usually a festive event where Delta farmers and businessmen dress up and come to visit with their neighbors. This year’s meeting took on a much more somber tone with most of the general session given over to an update on the flood conditions on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Col. Jeff Eckstein of the Corps of Engineers told its members and guests that an unprecedented amount of water is coming down the river due to heavy rains and snowfall in the Ohio River Valley.
