The debt ceiling compromise passed by Congress and signed  by the president in early August creates a Select or “Super” Committee charged  with reducing the federal debt. Only one member – Sen. Max Baucus of Montana –  has any experience in agriculture, but the committee could very well write the  next farm bill when it decides on spending priorities for the next 10 years.
