While east Mississippi was digging out from tornado damage, the west side of the state was preparing for extremely high backwater flooding from the Mississippi River.

The crest of the Mississippi River is expected in the Vicksburg, Miss., area around May 18. The result could be 375,000 acres of flooding in the south Delta of Mississippi.

In the accompanying video, the Office of Agricultural Communications for the Mississippi State University Extension Service reports on the expected flooding and talks with Peter Nimrod, chief engineer for the Mississippi Levee Board.
