Dr. Akin Adesina, who holds a graduate degree in economics from Purdue University, says increasing the amount of credit for Africa’s farmers is one of the keys to making them more productive. Adesina, the winner of this year’s Borlaug CAST Communications Award, talked about efforts to get African banks to make more loans to small farmers in this interview conducted after he received the award. The award is named for the late Dr. Norman Borlaug, who wrote the first paper ever published by the Council on Agricultural Science and Technology or CAST.
