The direct payments program in the 2008 farm bill may be an inviting target for those groups who want to increase funding for the average crop revenue enhancement (ACRE) or crop insurance programs. But cuts in direct payments may not translate into one-for-one spending reductions, according to the Louisiana Farm Bureau’s Kyle McCann. McCann discussed the budget dilemmas faced by agriculture during a presentation at the LSU Rice Research Station Field Day.
