Zion Gin Co., Brownsville, Tenn., was named 2004 grand prize winner of the best gin safety program in the five-state area of the Southern Cotton Ginners Association. They have won the award four of the past five years.
“At Zion Gin, safety starts at the top, with the company president, and it goes all the way down the list of employees,” says Larry Davis, safety director for SCGA. “The emphasis on safety is planned, coordinated, and executed to insure a very high level of awareness by every member of the staff.”
Best gin safety program award state winners were: Arkansas, Pendleton Gin, Dumas; Mississippi, Columbus Gin Association, Shaw; Louisiana, Tanner & Co., Frogmore; Missouri, B & B Cotton Co., Campbell; and Tennessee, Zion Gin Co., Brownsville.
Cowart Gin Co., Charleston, Miss., was grand prize winner of SCGA's most improved safety program award for the five-state area.
State award winners for most improved safety programs were: Arkansas, New Gin Co., Coy; Louisiana, Four Rivers Gin, Jonesville; Mississippi, Cowart Gin Co., Charleston; Missouri, Coppage Long Gin, Braggadocio; and Tennessee, Tennessee Gins, Covington.
Awards of excellence for gins scoring 94 percent or better in safety program ratings, but not state winners, went to Dumas Cotton Gin LLC, Dumas, Ark.; Avon Gin, Inc., Avon, Miss.; Jefferson Co-op Gin, Inc., Sherrill, Ark.; Self & Co. Gin, Belen, Miss.; McClendon, Mann & Felton, Marianna, Ark.; Bobo Moseley Gin, Clarksdale, Miss.
