FDA approves HeifermaX feeding combinations

• The approved combinations include a two-way combination with HeifermaX and Rumensin and a three-way combination with HeifermaX, Rumensin and Tylan.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of HeifermaX with Rumensin at its elevated dose of up to 40 g/ton (90 percent dry matter) in two- and three-way feeding combinations for feedlot heifers.

The approved combinations include a two-way combination with HeifermaX and Rumensin and a three-way combination with HeifermaX, Rumensin and Tylan.

The new combinations will allow for enhanced heifer performance, as Rumensin’s elevated dose improves feed conversion by 0.05 lbs feed/lb of gain (P< 0.01) when compared to the 30 g/ton dose.

“Producers now have the flexibility to manage heifers for feed optimization and efficiency using the complete portfolio of Elanco feed ingredients,” said Travis Choat, Elanco beef technical director.

An easy-to-use liquid pre-mix, HeifermaX increases weight gain, improves feed efficiency and suppresses estrus (heat) in feedlot heifers.

It has no pre-harvest withdrawal required in the United States, which offers cattle feeders more marketing flexibility while improving heifer performance for a better bottom line.
