Hero insecticide for cotton market

Cotton growers looking for more broad-spectrum control of insect pests have a new option for fast knockdown and long-lasting residual control.

Hero insecticide from FMC Corporation is labeled for use in cotton, soybeans, corn and numerous vegetable crops. Growers can use Hero to enhance late-season control of a broad spectrum of insects and mites, helping to maximize yields and profits.

Initially launched for use in corn (field, sweet and seed), Hero is now labeled for cotton and soybeans, in addition to several other crops, including tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, head lettuce, succulent peas and beans, head and stem brassicas, root and tuber vegetables and pecans.

Hero is registered for control of a wide range of pests, including mites, aphids, Japanese beetles, tarnished plant bugs, brown stink bugs, and heliothis species, among others.

Hero features a unique, dual-action technology for more complete, late-season control of cotton pests. The application flexibility of Hero makes it an important tool in an overall insecticide resistance management program in cotton.

“Hero is the new-generation insecticide to help cotton growers minimize insect pressure and protect their cotton acres to increase overall potential yields and profits,” says Adam Prestegord, Hero product manager for FMC. “The faster-acting formula and longer-lasting residual control provides a one-two punch against key cotton pests, including heliothis species, for healthier plant fruit and improved cotton stands each season.”

Field trials conducted throughout cotton-producing regions in the United States, including the Delta, indicate superior efficacy of Hero insecticide in protecting cotton from yield-damaging pests such as heliothis species, Prestegord says.

Hero should be applied at rates ranging from 2.6 to 10.3 ounces per acre, depending on the level of insect pressure and pest spectrum. Hero carries a “caution” signal word and can be applied with a re-entry interval of 12 hours.
