Jason Kelley, University of Arkansas Extension agronomist, reports that the Arkansas Plant Board has announced, “that our request for a 24C label for use of Avipel in corn has been approved for Arkansas. Avipel is a seed treatment bird repellent that reduces blackbird or other bird feeding on newly planted or emerging corn.
“My counterparts in Mississippi and Louisiana say that it has been effective in reducing bird feeding on corn.
“There are two formulations, a liquid version which is applied with a seed treater, or a dry hopper box treatment. The liquid version would likely be the preferred method to apply to help ensure adequate and uniform coverage on the seed.
“Avipel's active ingredient is a natural plant derived compound. It will not kill birds, only deters them.”
